Brenda Carey, MS MS LCMHCS
Hello! I’m Brenda
I’ve been in the counseling vocation for, well, let’s just say a long time. I’ve had the honor and opportunity to work with people from all walks of life, including individuals & couples that span the globe.
Most recently, my focus was on crisis work and adjunct teaching. At this juncture, I’m very excited to join Brinkley Brown Mental Wellness and be a part of something bigger, collaborative.
I consider my style to be eclectic and view my work with each couple/ individual as unique in their experience. You needn’t worry about sharing any topic. There is great courage (and self care) shown in all you bring. You have my word to provide an unconditional, non judgmental, safe place to talk.
Reportedly, I have a casual, relatable, intuitive style. But make no mistake, there’s always a method to my madness, or questions you deem irrelevant. I’ve trained in all traditional schools of thought/theories and have added NLP, conversational hypnosis, and coaching techniques to my integrated approach.
Yes please! Wear the tee, hoodie, or the evening gown to our meetings. If we meet via telehealth (or not) stay in your pjs, grab a meet while you eat, or while walking. Bluetooth works. Please, simply take the time. I’m happy to talk in any setting you are comfortable with.
Therapists tend to put themselves in categories. What schools of thought, or practice do you subscribe to? What are your areas of expertise? I feel the questions limit my approach. But for you, I’ll give it a try if you promise not to confine us to these areas.
If I had to make a quick, noninclusive list, it would include just about every person over the age of 13 feeling some type of distress or concern. From life adjustments, work/life balance, relationship, communication issues; to first signs of a traditional DSM diagnosis or managing it thereafter, I’m confident my experience provides the support needed.
I’ve worked on military bases, with couples throughout the world, individuals dealing with couple issues, LGBTQ+ individuals/couples and other people involved in alternative relational dynamics. After writing this, I’m certain to have missed so many others. My apologies.
I’d say my “go to”s often include CBT, Systems, and Reality Therapy with certain DBT mainstays always in my thoughts. Each person, in each circumstance, is unique. The way we proceed will be all about you, you two, you three…
Very important, you must feel comfortable in our therapeutic relationship. It’s the best way to achieve your best result. I encourage difficult conversations. I’ll be your biggest advocate for whatever you choose.
I am currently seeing clients via telehealth.
