Christian Counseling
Faith and Mental Health Can Work Together
For many people, faith is one of the greatest sources of hope, comfort, and strength during life’s most challenging moments. When you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, relationship concerns, trauma, or major life transitions, you shouldn’t have to leave an important part of who you are outside the counseling room.
At Brinkley Brown Mental Wellness PLLC, we offer Christian counseling for individuals,
couples, families, and adolescents who would like their Christian faith to be part of their therapeutic journey.
Our Christian counselors combine evidence-based mental health treatment with a Christian perspective when it is meaningful to you. Therapy remains grounded in proven clinical practices while creating space for conversations about faith, prayer, Scripture, forgiveness, grace, purpose, and hope—if you would like those topics included.
Most importantly, you decide what role your faith plays in counseling.
What Is Christian Counseling?
Christian counseling is professional mental health counseling that thoughtfully integrates Christian beliefs and values into the therapeutic process when requested by the client.
At Brinkley Brown Mental Wellness, our therapists utilize evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), SolutionFocused Therapy, trauma-informed care, and other clinically supported treatment methods.
Christian counseling does not replace these approaches—it complements them for clients who desire faith to be part of their healing.
For some clients, this may include:
• Discussing how faith influences important life decisions
• Exploring biblical principles that provide hope or encouragement
• Processing spiritual struggles or questions
• Recognizing the role church, community, and spiritual practices play in overall wellness
Others simply appreciate knowing their therapist understands and respects their Christian worldview without faith becoming a major focus of every session. Your therapist simply gives you a safe space to talk about your faith as you wish.
Is Christian Counseling Right for Me?
Christian counseling may be a good fit if you:
• Want a therapist who understands your Christian beliefs and values
• Desire therapy that acknowledges both emotional and spiritual well-being
• View your faith as an important source of strength and healing
• Want evidence-based mental health treatment without feeling you must separate your faith from the therapeutic process
• Are looking for a counselor who respects your Christian worldview
This is important. You do not have to be a “perfect Christian” to engage in and benefit from Christian counseling.
Many people come to counseling while wrestling with difficult questions about faith, experiencing spiritual doubt, recovering from painful church experiences, or simply trying to make sense of life’s challenges. Our therapists strive to provide a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment where you can honestly explore both emotional and spiritual concerns.
What Can I Expect During Christian Counseling?
Your first session is an opportunity for your therapist to get to know you—your concerns, your goals, your strengths, and what you hope to accomplish through counseling.
You’ll also have the opportunity to discuss whether and how you would like your Christian faith incorporated into treatment.
Some clients request prayer.
Some appreciate discussing Scripture occasionally.
Some simply want their values understood and respected.
Others choose not to discuss faith very often after the initial conversation.
All of these approaches are completely appropriate.
Our therapists will never assume how involved you want faith to be in counseling. Instead, they will ollaborate with you throughout the process and adjust your treatment to reflect your preferences.
Evidence-Based Care with Respect for Your Faith
At Brinkley Brown Mental Wellness, we are committed to providing high-quality clinical care. Our therapists utilize evidence-based treatment methods supported by research while recognizing that spirituality is an important aspect of identity for many individuals. Professional counseling organizations acknowledge that religion and spirituality can be meaningful components of treatment when they are important to the client and incorporated ethically and appropriately. Our goal is not to replace professional counseling with spiritual advice. Rather, we seek to integrate the two in a thoughtful, clinically responsible way that supports your overall wellbeing.
Our Philosophy
At Brinkley Brown Mental Wellness, we recognize that there are many different paths to wellness. For some individuals, Christian faith is an important part of that journey.
If faith is meaningful to you, we believe you should have a safe, supportive place where you can talk openly about it without feeling like you have to leave an important part of yourself at the door. Whether you’re seeking comfort during a difficult season, wrestling with questions of faith, or simply want your beliefs acknowledged as part of your counseling experience, your therapist will meet you with compassion and respect.
Christian counseling is always your choice. Some clients choose to incorporate prayer or Scripture into sessions, while others simply appreciate working with a therapist who understands their Christian worldview. Together, you and your therapist will determine what role, if any, faith will play in your treatment.
Our commitment is to provide compassionate, evidence-based counseling while honoring the beliefs, values, and experiences that matter most to you.
